Treasures

In 2004 the Geldmuseum was founded in the Netherlands. But this young museum presents a collection with historical roots. ‘Het Koninklijk Penningkabinet’ was founded by king Willem I; the numismatic collection of De Nederlandsche Bank, compiled since 1850; and last but not least the collection of the‘s Rijks Munt which existed from 1848 until 1994. At present, the Geldmuseum manages an extensive collection of coins, paper money, medals, engraved gemstones and means to produce coins. In total the collection includes about 4000,000 pieces. Now 50 treasures from this prestigious collection are highlighted in this book for the first time. It gives a richly illustrated impression of the comprehensiveness of the collection and how collectors and directors of the past left their mark on the compilation of these three collections
